All the work which went into the redevelopment of building was intended to provide a more appropriate base for the work of the church. Mission is what the church is here to do (in reality, it is joining God’s mission). Our first stage was to listen to the church family, friends, neighbours, etc. We sought the answer to three questions:
What in your opinion, is good about Haslemere?
What in your opinion, is not good about Haslemere?
What particular thing would improve life for you in Haslemere?
Our second stage was to listen to people we did not know, asking the same questions
Our third stage was to talk to council and voluntary agencies and other churches in Haslemere.
A number of good ideas came from all this.
So far we are taking two forward. The first is called ‘Lego Church’ and is for primary school age children and their parents and carers. The first ‘Lego Church’ is on Friday 27th October after school finishes and will include tea for all who come
The second initial relates to our ‘Open Door’ café that is currently open five mornings a week. This provides very good refreshments but also a warm space and a listening ear. We want to develop this as an opportunity for mission, where people can experience the love of God. To this aim, we have received funding from the Methodist Circuit to employ for one year a Café Manager/Mission Development Worker. this is Liza Caie who starts with us on 1st November.
